From Ashton:
"There are so many things I love about being a therapist...
however, building relationships and empowering my clients are my absolute favorite things.
Growing up, I knew I wanted to work with kids, and originally went to school to become a teacher. After experiencing my own grief and loss, I quickly realized my passion for mental health. Now, I love that I get to teach kids tools that will serve them throughout their entire lives.
Watching kids grasp and implement coping skills, grow their mental strength, and heal from trauma brings me hope for the future. I often tell them, "You're learning things most adults don't know how to do!" I strive to make sure my clients understand the goals we are working on and how it will help them in their every day lives.
I also believe in fortifying parents with the skills needed to raise children in this day and age. As we know, there's no "handbook," but there are tools to build confidence in managing the natural challenges of being a parent. I always involve parents in sessions so they can learn, too, and help their child later apply the skills they discover in session to daily life at home.
If kids or teens prefer to chat alone, that is always welcomed. My counseling sessions are a mixture of conversation, games, activities, arts and crafts, and always some laughter.
When I'm not playing on the floor with my clients, you'll find me spending time with loved ones. My husband and I love to take walks with our twin boys and our dog Olaf. I also teach yoga locally and have a small Disney travel agency with my best friend. Relationships are very important to me, especially the one I have with myself. I can't wait to learn about what makes you special and how I can help you feel more at peace in your everyday life!
